Wedding Crashers

In His final week before the Cross and Resurrection, Jesus tells a parable (Mt. 22:1-14) about a wedding feast.

Unlike most wedding feasts, however, this one involves a king & his son, some ornery, busy, and disinterested invitees, and even murder. If that were not enough, perhaps, what’s most surprising is the epilogue. (If it were a movie, perhaps, this would show up in the credits). After all the guests have assembled, the king spots a wedding crasher.

After all the refusals you’d think it would be fine, but this wedding crasher is shown the door. Although everyone is invited, you still need the send in your RSVP. “Many are called, but few are chosen.” (Mt. 22:14)

Today, the invitation to heaven has been sent to everyone. Just like the parable, some are too busy or disinterested. Some are even hostile to the invitation. Some think they’ll just slip in without an RSVP.

The message is clear. While all are welcome, you still have to RSVP and show up in the right wedding clothes. The good news is that the Groom (Jesus) has already provided these garments. They’ve already been paid for, and there’s one just for you. However, you still have to put it on, i.e. you still need to be clothed in righteousness.

How do you do this?
You RSVP to heaven by asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins (Rom. 10:13). Your sins have already been paid for, but you still need to acknowledge your need for His forgiveness. Ask Jesus to save you—He will; and we’ll see you at the wedding.
