Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
Due to a family tragedy, during the Civil War, a Brigadier General in the Army of the Potomac had been granted an audience with President Lincoln to request an exemption from military service. However, upon arrival at the White House, he was refused entry and told he would need to reschedule.
In a state of despondency, he went to sit on a nearby bench and began to pray. He was approached by a young boy who asked him why he was so sad. The officer surprised himself as he opened up to this unknown boy about how his wife had passed away and that his oldest son was battling a health issue. The boy said, “Come with me. I know someone who can help.”
The boy began to lead him back to the White House, but as they got closer they went around to the back of the White House. To his surprise none of the solders stopped them, and without having anything to lose, he decided to see who the boy was leading him to.
As they approached the back door, armed soldiers stood to attention and opened the door for them to enter. The Brigadier General was amazed. Making their way down the hallways of the White House, the boy led them into what’s now referred to as the “Oval Office”.
Without even knocking the boy went straight in. There was President Abraham Lincoln in a deep conversation with his Secretary of War and some other aides. Lincoln said, “Todd, what can I do for you?” The boy, Todd Lincoln, said, “Daddy, this man needs to talk to you right away.” The President smiled and asked how he could help.
The General was given access to the President through his son. Because of Jesus, you too have immediate access to the King of Kings. At any time of the day or night, you have access to meet with the Creator of the Universe. He is your Heavenly Father. You have access to the Throne Room.
